Therapists: Here’s Why Your Social Media Strategy Isn’t Bringing in New Clients.
If you’re a therapist & your social media content is not resulting in bookings or sales, make sure you’re getting this right.
The biggest problem I see in the content of therapists I coach is they don’t start strong and “hook” their ideal clients’ attention.
The content might be helpful or show expertise but if you don’t stop the scroll, the right people don’t see it.
Worse still, it might even be considered boring.
I’m going to give some therapist specific examples of how you can change your content so it stops the scroll below.
Important: The hook needs to be specific to your ideal client’s problems and desires, not just any hook.
Here’s some examples of how therapists typically start posts and alternative attention grabbing “hooks” to grab your ideal clients attention.
It’s the difference between: “5 tips to improve your body image” and
“Here’s how my client when from hating looking at herself in photos, to having the confidence to book her own photoshoot”
OR
“What is EMDR therapy?” vs
“what if I fold you that you could stop reliving the past and enjoy life again?”
OR
“Acceptance helps with anxiety” vs
“if I was struggling with anxiety, this is the number one thing I would start doing”
OR
“Schema therapy changes your longstanding relationship patterns” vs
“If you’re struggling with relationships here’s my take on why you’ll benefit from schema therapy”
When a hook works, it stops the scroll by:
meeting a need,
sparking curiosity or
demanding attention in someway (there’s a reason you see “stop doing xyz so often - it stops the scroll).
I recommend you begin by noticing what makes you stop the scroll.
Next, ask yourself, would you stop scrolling for your own content. If the answer is no, redo the post with the hook in mind.
